Diagnostic Testing

Our In Office Procedures Include:

EKG – A painless, non-invasive test that records a 12 lead assessment of electrical activity of the heart.

ECHOCARDIOGRAM A painless, non-invasive highly specialized test, performed by our experienced technician in the office setting. This test provides anatomic information about the chambers and valves of the heart using ultrasound wave technology.

NUCLEAR STRESS TEST A painless, non-invasive test that monitors the electrical activity of the heart at rest and during exercise. The patient walks on a treadmill while a continuous EKG monitors the electrical activity of the heart. A radioactive isotope is injected at rest and at peak exercise and state-of-the-art computer systems images blood flow to the heart. This test aides in detecting the presence of significant blockage in the arteries of the heart.

HOLTER MONITOR A painless, non-invasive test that is utilized for detecting arrhythmias (rhythm problems of the heart). Electrodes are strategically placed on the chest area and attached to a small portable tape recorder that is worn around the patient's waist. The recorder is worn for approximately 24 hours to obtain a continuous monitoring of the rhythm.

EVENT MONITOR This involves long-term monitoring of patients with electrodes placed on the chest and attached to a small portable recorder. The information is then transmitted via telephone line and retrieved via fax when the monitor is triggered by the patient for the detection of an abnormal heart rhythm.

Our In Hospital Procedures Include:

CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION/CORONARY ANGIOGRAM This is an invasive procedure, frequently performed as an outpatient procedure in the hospital. This procedure assists the physician in determining the degree and location of any blockages in the arteries of the heart (coronary arteries) . A catheter is introduced through the femoral artery and then advanced into the arteries of the heart. Dye is then injected, thus enabling the physician to obtain images of the arteries. Treatment modalities will vary with the degree, severity and location of the atherosclerotic blockages that are detected.

PTCA - (Angioplasty) Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty is an invasive procedure by which the physician reduces the blockages in the coronary arteries with the use of a "balloon" catheter. The balloon is inflated at the area of the blockage which in turn compresses the atherosclerotic plaque against the artery wall thus enabling an increased blood flow through the coronary artery.

STENT a small metallic coil that is deployed at the area of blockage after the PTCA. This metallic coil assists the artery walls in remaining open after the PTCA.
